Wire Mill Supervisor

Job summary: Manage and direct the hourly maintenance work force

Essential duties and responsibilities: Supervise maintenance hourly personnel, utilizing efficient planning skills to complete daily and project activities. Communicate with the operating departments to provide sufficient manpower and efficient maintenance services. Promote a safe working environment and ensure safe work practices are being followed. Reduce equipment down time and execute effective preventive maintenance practices. Develops and assigns submitted work requests and work orders. Coordinates work with engineering, purchasing, operations and outside vendors. Checks material availability, prepares requisitions, and expedites material as necessary. Utilizes computer system to maintain maintenance records. Executes current preventive maintenance programs and advises if any changes are needed. Suggests any new programs that may be required. Participates in the failure analysis of untimely equipment breakdowns. Prepares and revises documentation associated with projects and/or assigned work.

Supervisory responsibilities: Supervise approximately 15 union employees in various maintenance departments in the Wire Mill. Controls assignment of manpower and project completion deadlines. Sets and revises priorities in a multi-tasking environment. Maintains knowledge of assignments in progress and effectively communicates. Initiates disciplinary action as is warranted according to rules and regulations. Coordinates safety meetings, safe job procedure reviews, respirator fit testing, safety contacts, and inspection records. Maintains safety boards and housekeeping in assigned areas.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Three to five (3-5) years experience in a supervisory capacity involving multi-craft maintenance personnel in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
